What ever you do to mark World Down Syndrome Day, do it with love and insistence, joy and expectation, symbolism AND ACTION. Make some noise, tell the truth and demand equity. That which is pithy and trivial can never represent the fortitude and resiliency of individuals and families made silent be systems and social oppression. The souls whose final resting places lie beneath unmarked graves, behind institutions and in ravines beseech you. The survivors of medical experimentation, behaviour modification, eugenics, and sterilization implore you. Throw your hand in the air and say “no more”.  Social action is nether gentle nor trivial. Get to the heart of the matter, get to someones heart today. There can be no momentum without friction.  Peace.
