Labels Defied
WATCH: Are psychiatric disorders for children real? Or are they simply labels that hold them back from realizing their true potential as unique and dynamic individuals? Citizens Commission on Human Rights International have launched a new social messaging campaign that attempts to remove the labels from children and allow them to individually grow into contributing members of society. The campaign depicts kids and young adults with common psychiatric disorder plastered across their chests who strip free their labels to reveal alternative and powerful messages that highlight their contributions rather than their deficits.
It’s not hard to see how this could easily translate to the world of Autism, Down syndrome, or other conditions we have labelled as disabilities. Ask yourself, when you think of your family members with a disability, do you let that quality define them? We all could learn a lot from this ad.
